Sustainable Development Charter

  • In 2008, the group ESL Education SA redefined its objectives in term of corporate social responsibility (CSR) by setting itself the objective of becoming, in 5 years, a reference in its sector in terms of social and environmental responsibility. This charter shows the commitments that the group wishes to undertake in order to achieve this.

    The charter of commitment to sustainable development describes the various focus points of its strategy of social and environmental responsibility towards all of those concerned and in particular, its clients, co-workers and partners.

    This charter is signed by the whole executive committee of ESL Education SA across the world and will be broken down into an action plan for each related area.

  • Our environmental responsibility

    Because we think that our company has a role to play in the preservation of the environment, because we wish to participate in the overall effort to preserve natural resources, to reduce pollution and to fight against global warming, we undertake to:

    1. Monitor, communicate and continually improve our environmental standards;

    2. Train and increase awareness among our co-workers of the preservation of the environment throughout their activity;

    3. Monitor and adapt our consumption habits, notably of water and energy;

    4. Monitor and reduce the CO2 emissions of our vehicles;

    5. Optimise and reduce the distances travelled by our logistics team, notably with regard to our brochures and their transportation;

    6. Reduce, sort and recycle our waste material;

    7. Audit and evaluate our suppliers on their environmental policy.

  • Towards all those concerned among us

    Because we wish to be exemplary towards our clients, and because we wish to promote and implement sustainable development in an ongoing and pragmatic way, we undertake to:

    8. Put into place a dedicated organisation, with the responsibility of piloting and monitoring our sustainable development policy, and producing the necessary information on this measure to those concerned among us;

    9. Operate in a transparent and ethical fashion in our way of governance and our business relations;

    10. Carry out regular satisfaction surveys with our clients, co-workers and partners and put into place all of the necessary actions in order to best meet their expectations.

  • Towards our clients

    Because the quality of our services for our clients is our first concern, because we know that education is one of the first human needs and that it presents numerous challenges for sustainable development, we undertake to:

    11. Develop and put in place all of the processes allowing us to contribute to the well-being of our clients throughout their stay abroad;

    12. Offer the best educational provision and help our clients to select the most suitable programme to them;

    13. Develop and put into place all of the processes allowing us to guarantee the quality of our products as well as the services of our partners, particularly concerning teaching;

    14. Give access to a variety of language training in order to promote cultural and linguistic diversity;

    15. Inform our clients about the ecological footprint of their stay abroad and give them the means of limiting this;

    16. Propose each time that it’s possible and feasible, a responsible offer in our partner schools including quality cultural, social and recreational activities;

    17. Promote education about the environment and sustainable development through our offer and programmes of citizen awareness and education;

    18. Encourage exchanges and meetings between individuals in order to contribute to a better awareness of one another and the environment.

  • Towards our partners

    Because our partnerships formed with other schools around the world are at the heart of our work and because these schools are the first ambassadors of our environment, we undertake to:

    25. Establish close ties with our partners in order to understand the environmental and social realities of their territories;

    26. Advance progressively in the dialogue towards an audit and an evaluation of their CSR practices;

    27. Contribute to the sharing of the best practices that may interest them in the framework of their daily activity in order to control their ecological footprint;

    28. Allow access to the learning languages to the largest number of people;

    29. Promote the diversity of our partners through the enhancement of their characteristics.

  • Towards local communities and society

    Because we wish to take part fully in the sustainable development of the territories where we are established, and because we wish to contribute to the sustainable development of the most disadvantaged regions and populations, we undertake to:

    30. Develop partnerships with associations and NGOs, promoting citizen integration, education, the support to people in difficulty and sustainable development.

    31. Participate in the most relevant way in local or national initiatives promoting citizen and humanitarian values.

    32. Audit and evaluate our suppliers on their social policy, in the respect of the commitments of Global Compact, notably in terms of human rights and labour rights.

    33. Promote the discovery of other cultures by encouraging people of different nationalities and social backgrounds to go to learn about them through travel and the learning of a language.
